Layers of the Land explores place, texture, and connection through intricate layers and different textures. As light moves across its surface, a dance of shadows brings depth and quiet movement to the work.

Contemporary yet organic, it brings a sense of grounding, warmth, and calm to modern interiors.

Description

Layers of the Land is a hand-crafted circular wall sculpture made from reclaimed corrugated cardboard. Inspired by the textures and stories of the whenua (land), this work explores natural form through three distinct sections: an intricate lace-like upper layer, a central pattern suggesting human presence, and a more grounded, earthy base.

Framed in a 42 x 42 cm natural timber box, this piece shifts with the light, its shadows moving gently throughout the day. The central layer may evoke tangata whenua—the people of the land—offering a quiet reflection on place, connection, and identity.

This contemporary, sustainable artwork brings together natural rhythm, material honesty, and soft, sculptural detail—ideal for modern interiors seeking meaning and calm.
